Abstract: The higher education system in India is the largest in the world interms of number of institutions. There has been a noteworthy hike in the number of higher education institutions since independence. The higher education institutions registered almost 51 fold increase during last six decades. The share of private sector in higher education took momentum in the post 2000 period. This increase has enhanced the access as well as the Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER). The private higher education has been more pragmatic and considerate to the labour market needs. Despite these merits, there exists many demerits in this private participation. There is a need for effective regulation of private higher education to address the quality and equity issues.

Abstract: ब्रिटिश शासन ने व्यापार के माध्यम से भारतीय समाज को दरिद्र एवं परावलम्बी बनाते हुए आर्थिक दृष्टि से विघटित कर दिया और मुगलकाल से चली या रही कठोर जाति व्यवस्था को अप्रत्यक्ष रूप से प्रश्रय देते हुए प्रमुख जातियों को एक दूसरे के विरुद्ध खड़ा कर दिया। उनका उद्देश्य यह रहा कि भारतीय समाज में एकता, सौहार्द तथा सहयोग की भावनाएं समाप्त हो जायें और वह छोटे-छोटे टुकड़ों में बंट कर आर्थिक सामाजिक सत्ता के पदसोपान में इस प्रकार समा जाय कि स्वयं समाज का एक वर्ग दूसरे को दबाता रहे।
