  • A Systematic Review of Open-Source Integrated Library Systems (ILS): Functional Capabilities, Adoption Trends, and Impact on Library Services

    DOI:DOI:18.A003.aarf.J14I01.009454

Barkha Mishra and Dr. Ashwani Yadav

Abstract: \r\nLibraries, as foundational institutions of knowledge creation and dissemination, have historically embraced technology to optimize information services and resource management. The emergence of Open Source Software (OSS) in the late 20th century marked a paradigm shift, particularly in library science, moving libraries away from dependence on costly proprietary products. OSS’s model—characterized by open code, license-free use, and community-driven development—fits well with libraries’ values of accessibility, sharing, and innovation (Ghosh & Pandey, 2016). This approach not only results in technological empowerment but also aligns with the global movement towards knowledge democratization and open access.\r\n
