Travelogues: The Innovative Literary Genre in Literature
Abdul Majeed Dar
Abstract:
Travel Writing or Travelogue is an old canon of Literature, dealing with nature writing, adventure writing, exploration writing, guide books etc. Even the Picaresque form of novel had elements of travel writing in it. It’s a herculean job as one has to be an effective user of language and at the same time be a keen observer to portray and display analytical data. This paper focuses on the real need, utility, relevance, and importance of travel literature in today’s rapidly changing tourism sector and globalised society as people try to see a new world through the writing and impression of a writer who serves to be an informer, advisor and guide. The canon of travel writing has acquired the centre of importance now rather than being in the periphery it also focuses on the changing paradigm of travel writing today,

Exploration of Satire, Social problems and Issues in the Works of Khushwant Singh
Farhat Rasool
Abstract:
They say, to err is Human, to forgive is Divine. This dictum is a universally accepted one. Yet there are exceptions. What will be the consequence if one goes on committing mistakes throughout? Can he be forgiven forever? Though not punished severely, at least he should be informed of his follies. One of the best ways to make him aware of his frailties is to ridicule and laugh at him. This approach is termed as satire. Though the paper focuses on the Satire, which is established hallmark of Khushwant Singh’s fictional works, however this paper will also highlight in detail the social problems and issues, belief in superstition, initiation of young minds into sex, Jealousy and discrimination which are the main aspects that Khushwant Singh criticizes in his works.

Ahimsa from Ancient Indian Culture to Modern Times
Dr. Archana
Abstract:
The word ahimsa is derived from the Sanskrit root hims, meaning to strike. Himsa is injury or harm. A-himsa is the opposite of this, non-harming. Very simply, ahimsa is abstaining from causing harm or injury. It is gentleness and non-injury, whether physical, mental or emotional; It is good to know that non-violence speaks only to the most extreme forms of forceful wrongdoing, while ahimsa goes much deeper to prohibit even the subtle abuse and the simple hurt. The principle of ahimsa can directly be derived from the concept of the modes of matter (three gunas). It arises from the mode of goodness

MANIRAM DEWAN: THE TORCHBEARER OF ASSAMESE UNITY IN THE REVOLT OF 1857
Yumkhaibam Shyam Singh
Abstract:
Maniram Dewan, an erstwhile Ahom noble, was apparently the first Assamese who had imbued with the concept of unity of citizens to make a nation great. In 1826, when Assam became a part of the British territory, Maniram took side with the British to satisfy himself and also to fulfill the latter’s colonial design. He eventried to suppress the early anti-British movements in Assam and also took major role in the executionof two rebels- Piyali Phukan and Jiuram. Therefore, Maniram had many rivals in Assam. But later, the Dewan changed his mind because of the greedy British design and became its arch rival. After 1838, Maniram pursued for the restoration of Ahom Government in Upper Assam. But being rejected, he joined the Revolt of 1857 in Calcutta. Maniram then sent many letters to different Assamese to unite and rise against the British. He also hatched many conspiracies relating to the Revolt of 1857. For this act, the Dewan was executed on 26February 1858. On the scaffold, just before his execution, the Dewan made an apology to the people of Assam, mainly his rivals, instead of making such slogan like- Long Live Ahom Monarchy. Hence, Maniram tried to integrate his rivals with his own followers. The Dewan’s apology was not an apology of a defeated man, but an apology to unfurl a new era of Assamese unity after his death.

Peasant Experience in India:A case study of Turmeric farming in Telangana: Dimensions and Perspectives.
Prof. Chinta Ganesh
Abstract:
India witnessed numerous social and peasant movements during the pre-independence era. And several scholarly works have been done and accounts are available related to evolution of land system and social arrangements on land in different part of the country. But in a country like India, where there are not only regional variations but also historical and cultural contexts impacting every aspect of rural life, farming assumes a greater importance as a scope of study. In this context there have been high differences at the level of caste, class and locality and their composition altogether have been the subject of varied discussion. Undoubtedly, due to its different social structural settings and historical experiences, it would always be hazardous to generalise the experiences.

Missing Links between Veer Savarkar and Rash Bihari Bose: A Historical Study
Dr Nilanjan De
Abstract:
Savarkar is an unquestionable nationalist, an ardent anti-imperialist and a fearless freedom fighter, Veer Savarkar had motivated thousands of people both before and after independence. His sacrifice for the motherland still remains in our hearts even after a long effort of destroying his image and works. They tried their best to damage his status as a freedom fighter and they spread lots of myths about him. Savarkar was overlooked in the schools, colleges and even in the university books. Other true son of Maa Bharati, Rash Bihari Bose was also ignored by them. Though these two eminent leaders played their vital roles in separate fields, they had a close connection between them and that may be due to their passion for doing something more for their motherland. The great revolutionary Veer Savarkar always became a source of encouragement to Rash Bihari Bose. This paper will be my humble attempt to find out the missing links between those greatest revolutionaries of Bharat. To find the real facts behind the myths propagated by those narrow-minded, pseudo-secular, unscrupulous and megalomaniac politicians, educationists, researchers etc.

PRAGMATIC ANALYSIS OF SOCIAL-CULTURAL ISSUES IN HISTORIC MEWAR OF RAJASTHAN
Mr. Jakir Hussain
Abstract:
Transformation refers to a process or instance of change in the myriad cultural, economic, political and social forces that shape a society. It entails change in production and distribution systems, social relations and cultural practices which transform conditions in the local community. The process of transformation has varied meanings for different strata of society according to their phase of development. Its course becomes even more interesting when studied in relation to the tribal groups as firstly, they are isolated and little is known about them; secondly, these societies are highly marginalized and exploited by the subjects of mainstream society; thirdly, they are most neglected mainly because of their distinct and little known cultures and lastly, any little change in their social or economic sphere can never be studied in isolation but has to be studied in a holistic fashion.

PHILOSOPHICAL NOTIONS CONCERNING THE IDEA AND ACCOUNTABILITY OF UNIVERSITY – AN ANTI-CRITIQUE
- M.P. Terence Samuel
Abstract:
Critiques of the university system fall broadly under two categories, namely the ‘idea of university’ and the ‘accountability of university’. The ‘idea’ camp thinks that something is lost within the university education system due to its enveloping socio-economic conditions and the ‘accountability’ camp criticises the university system for not accomplishing the immediate concerns and needs of capitalist business interests as well as social/local interests in a meaningful way. This article attempts to analyse such critiques to understand what they try to mean and what are the specific problems associated with such critiques of both camps; further, this paper attempts to find out the paradigm on which the ‘idea of university’ and the ‘accountability of university’ could meet to address the problems arising out of contextual necessities and contingencies that define what universities are meant to be.

“A STUDY ON EFFECTIVENESS OF TEACHING MATHEMATICS BY USING LEARNING MATERIALS AMONG VIII STANDARD STUDENTS”
Dr.Janaki.M
Abstract:
Education has been considered as a natural process. The process of education started even during the prehistoric period when man in his primitive stage began to apply his intelligence to adapt himself to his environment and fulfill the needs of his life. The process of education of man begins when he is in the womb of his mother. Then gradually he learns from the family, community and other members of society. In this connection it may be noted that, family, community, society and environment are all educational institutions which continue to educate him since birth. But formal and planned education is given in schools only. The education given by the above institutions is a natural process which is received by every person according to his aptitude and capability. So they do not influence all equally. They only prepare the necessary background for formal education in schools.
