OVERCOMING CHALLENGES IN IMPLEMENTING ICT-BASED EDUCATION IN RURAL SETTINGS
KALPANA.R
Abstract:
Utilization of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in rural education can bring unprecedented development in learning outcomes as well as narrowing the digital divide. Despite this contribution, however, the practice of ICT-based education is not without significant difficulties in remote regions: obstacles such as lack of underdeveloped infrastructures, socio-economic limitations, cultural reservations and policy voids persist. This study reviews the literature and constructs case studies from developing countries like India, Kenya, and Brazil to identify these challenges. It discusses potential solutions for addressing these challenges including public-private partnerships, teacher training programs, and technology-oriented approaches like mobile-based learning platforms. Public-Private partnerships reduce costs, drive Innovation, promote sustainable ICT adoption, while NGOs can act as a bridge between the governments, and communities. Moreover, it shares practical recommendations for policymakers and stakeholders to strengthen ICT integration in rural education. The study highlights the long-term advantages that ICT brings, such as better learning outcomes, increased digital literacy, and improved equity in access to quality education. The study concludes with recommendations for further research, including the effects of ICT on rural student outcomes and the potential of emerging technologies to tackle contextual challenges.
