DR. REJI K PROF. DR. STEPHANE NARCISAbstract: Thomas Hardy's The Woodlanders transcends the boundaries of a simple love story. By incorporating the concept of tinai from classical Tamil Sangam literature, Hardy imbues the narrative with a deeper layer of emotional resonance. The mullai tinai, representing the melancholic beauty of the forest landscape at dusk, becomes a powerful motif that reflects the yearning and frustrations experienced by the characters. The mullai terrain, characterized by dense forests and twilight hours, perfectly complements the emotional state of the protagonists, particularly Marty South. Marty's love for Giles Winterborne remains unrequited, as his social standing and financial woes prevent him from expressing his feelings. The melancholic beauty of the mullai setting mirrors Marty's longing. Descriptions of the "gloomy woods" and the "waning light" evoke a sense of quiet desperation, mirroring Marty's internal struggle. Furthermore, the traditional associations of the mullai tinai with the jasmine flower and the deer further enhance the portrayal of love and longing. Jasmine, known for its intoxicating fragrance that fades quickly, symbolizes the fleeting nature of hope. The deer, often depicted as separated lovers searching for each other, reinforces the theme of unfulfilled desires. When Marty encounters Giles in the darkening woods, the presence of deer subtly underscores the yearning in their hearts. |

Dr. Alka Sharma,Abstract: Like Virginia Woolf and Henry James Vikas Sharma analyzes the psychology of his major character and records the 'impressions' that come to their mind on several occasions. He doesn't ignore the negative thoughts that often hurt them. Yet he believes that positive psychology has got to be explored more and more because a lot of research scholars have done enthusiastic works on negative psychology. The terms like hope, courage, self-restraint, faith in bright future, right means, etc. has been mentioned in this research paper on the basis of the book Positive Psychology written by C.R. Synder and Shane L. Lpez. One has got to be positive in one's life though the situations may be tense and disgusting. Like Robert Browning and Emily Dickenson, the major characters of Vikas Sharma listen the regular music of the bird of hope and remain cheerful, strong and bold and face all the odd situations in spite of romance. Here love is allied with hope, vigour and zeal in life. |

Dr. Ranjit Kullu,Abstract: Amrita Pritam (1919-2005) is a renowned literary personality that cannot be forgotten in the history of Punjabi Literature. She is the gem that brought class and respect to Punjabi literature. Translated into various languages, she mainly wrote in Punjabi and Hindi. As a prominent Punjabi poet, novelist and essayist, she created wonderful stories about humanity. Her famous novel Pinjar (The Cage) in 1950 became an epitome of violence against women, loss of humanity and ultimate surrender to existential fate. The novel was later adapted into an award winning film Pinjar in 2003. The novel is set into backdrop of post-partition India and Pakistan and strongly voices the agony of women of the time. The filmmaker Chandraprakash Dwivedi attempted a brave task to adapt the story of the novel on the silver screen. In his endeavours to maintain fidelity to the text and the spirit of the novel, he goes very close to the borders. The cross border violence and chaos is palpably seen on the silver screen as they are poignantly depicted in the novel. This article tries to analyse whether female consciousness of the novel successfully travels from the novel to the film. |

Mridul Bonia,Abstract: Voting behavior is a frequently examined concept in democratic political studies. It is fundamental to democracy, as it is through elections that citizens select their representatives to form a government. Voting behavior is undeniably a crucial component of any political system, as no political system can function effectively without the electorate's awareness and participation in the political process. Casting a vote is a vital aspect of the democratic system, and decisions made at this foundational level have the potential to alter power structures. The Tai Khamyung tribe, a small group of Mongoloid descent, are indigenous inhabitants of Assam, having migrated from the Hukawng Valley of Eastern China in the pre-Christian era. They speak the Tai language and have preserved their distinct cultural identities and traditions. The Tai Khamyung tribe's unique cultural heritage and historical background may influence their voting behavior and political participation patterns. Understanding their perspectives on governance and decision-making processes can provide valuable insights into the functioning of democracy in diverse communities. Examining the tribe's engagement with local and national political systems may reveal important factors that shape their electoral choices and civic involvement. |
