  • A study on the Rise and fall of the Mongol Empire

Dr Hemlata Meena,

Abstract: Historians sometimes employ a 'decline and fall' model to elucidate the demise of empires, a concept popularized by Edward Gibbon's seminal work on the Roman Empire. Contemporary historians of Late Antiquity, however, have generally questioned its veracity. This article examines the factors contributing to the dissolution of the Mongol Empire during the thirteenth and 14 centuries. It analyzes the partition of the empire into four khanates, followed by an examination of the subsequent disintegration of each. It posits that the khanates which preserved a greater degree of its original nomadic ethos—the Golden Horde in the Pontic steppes and the Chaghatai Khanate in Central Asia—were able to endure for a more extended period than others. under the Ilkhanate in Persia and the Great Khanate in China and Mongolia, which were centered in sedentary regions.
