Abstract:
Health of people has always been a basic building block for development of any society. Consequently, access to good healthcare services have been an important concern for almost all nations in the world. Internationally a lot of focus has been given on health and healthcare. Global goal of health for all by year 2000 was adopted by World Health Assembly in 1977. To work for achieving this goal, specific targets were developed by WHO European region in year 1984. One of the target was to build effective mechanism for ensuring quality of patient care. The target was supposed to be achieved by year 1990. As an effort towards this WHO urged all member state to develop mechanisms for bringing quality in patient care of their region.

The Indian banking sector has been facing serious problems of raising Non- Performing Assets (NPAs). The NPAs growth has a direct impact on profitability of banks. Non- performing assets are one of the major concerns for scheduled commercial banks in India. The recommendations of Narasimham committee and Verma committee, some steps have been taken to solve the problem of old NPAs in the balance sheets of the banks. It continues to be expressed from every corner that there has rarely been any systematic evaluation of the best way of tackling the problem.
